Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport has a park dedicated to the air heroes - "The Wingmen’s Park”
Bucharest Airports National Company has inaugurated today, June 7, 2021, at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport “The Wingmen’s Park”.
The event was dedicated to the celebration of 135 years since the birth of Henri Coandă, the inventor and creator of the first jet engine in the world, occasion on which the bust carved by the plastic artist Radu Dragusin was unveiled.
In 2020, 29 seedlings were planted, which received the names of some famous personalities from the world of Romanian aeronautics - Aurel Vlaicu, Traian Vuia, Smaranda Brăescu, Ioana Cantacuzino, etc. The action was part of the social responsibility program "Friends of the airport - friends of the environment", which Bucharest Airports National Company has been running since 2006.
"The Wingmen’s Park” is a symbol through which we express our respect and gratitude for all those who have served the Romanian wings over time. When we spread our wings in flight, we do not forget to keep our roots alive and honor them with the deeds of the present”, - iterated Cosmin Cătălin Peșteșan, General Director of CNAB.
"I had the honor to carve and I donated to CNAB this monument dedicated to the spiritual patron of the airport, in the spirit of celebrating the human capacity to excel. Henri Coandă is a key figure on the world stage of humanity and this is exactly what should make us happy - the fact that by associating ourselves with his personality, we manage to keep the trajectory. Maybe the “Academy of Thoughts” Coanda wanted to establish shall be born one day”, - said the sculptor Radu Dragusin.
The park was designed and arranged by ELIS PAVAJE and SCDA INFRASTRUCTURE, which contributed to honor the memory of the Romanian aviation heroes.
This outdoor space also brings comfort to the passengers who can benefit from such a pleasant waiting place, an additional facility within the sanitary circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
