110 years since Baneasa Airport was set up
On Monday, August 1, 2022, Bucharest Airports National Company celebrated 110 years since the establishment of Băneasa Airport, considered the third oldest airport in the world still in operation. It was inaugurated in 1920, but its history begins on August 1, 1912, when the Romanian Air League, led by Prince George Valentin Bibescu, set up a flight school for military pilots in Băneasa.
The event brought together personalities from the world of civil and military aviation in Romania and the presence of the Romanian Airclub, which performed low-altitude demonstration passes, honored the oldest airport that hasn’t stopped aeronautical activity.
