Bucharest Airports National Company (BANC) registered between the 7th of May and the 11th of May, a total number of 16,757 charter passengers arriving on the two airports of Bucharest - Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport (BHCIA and Bucharest-Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (BBAVIA)- to attend the 2012 UEFA Champions League final.
On the 2012 UEFA Europa League Grand Final day, the number of passengers arriving by charter flights on BHCIA far exceeded the number of passengers arriving on regular flights, so that the total traffic was of 24,025 arrived passengers, compared to around 10,000 on a typical day.
On the 10th of May, the total number of passengers leaving from BHCIA was of 27,080, compared to around 10,000 passengers who board on the capital's main airport in a normal day.
The total of processed passengers (arrivals / departures) on the 9th of May on BHCIA was 34,711, and on the 10th of May there were 36,158 passengers who arrived and departed on BHCIA, the capacity flow on departures increasing on this day from 1,200 to 3,000 passengers per hour.
On the 9th of May, one of the two runways of BHCIA turned into parking for charter aircraft, a record number of 108 aircrafts being parked on BHCIA, out of which 74 operated charters with fans.
For the first time in its 100 years history, on BBAVIA landed a Boeing 747-700 aircraft which, on the 7th of May, brought 475 passengers to Bucharest: Athletic Bilbao team and its supporters. The aircraft of Atletico Madrid team also landed on Baneasa Airport with 200 passengers on board.
During UEFA Europa League event, 77 charter flights operated on BHCIA and BBAVIA.
Organizing this event was a major operational challenge, our company professionally coping with it, the air traffic being normally carried out on both airports of the capital and all conditions for good air operations being properly conducted. The "Stress test" of the busiest days in the history of BHCIA was successfully passed by the BANC employees,UEFA Europe League being a bet won by BANC.
