Increased air traffic on capital’s airports in the first quarter
Bucharest Airports National Company recorded in the first quarter of 2015, on Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Bucharest-Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, a record air traffic of 1,809,228 passengers and 23,961 aircraft movements (landings and takeoffs). Of this total, Henri Coandă Airport recorded 1,808,332 passengers and 21,532 aircraft movements.
The number of passengers who transited the two airports in 2015 registered a significant increase of 15.5% compared to last year’s same period.
The evolution of the passengers’ number on Bucharest Airports National Company’s two airports exceeds the general trend registered within Europe. Bucharest airports recorded also an increase in the number of aircraft movements, surpassing in this chapter the European trend. Thus, within 2015’s first three months, the number of aircraft movements at airports in Bucharest increased by 12.6% over last year’s same period.
In 2014, Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Bucharest-Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport were transited by 8,321,858 passengers, the number of aircraft movements (landings and takeoffs) rising to 102.048.
31 airlines are currently operating on Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, carrying passengers to 70 destinations. Two new airlines started operating on Henri Coandă Airport in 2014: Ryanair and Air Baltic.
Bucharest Airports National Company started functioning on February the 5th, 2010, ensuring the operational coordination and the management of the two airports in Bucharest. The company was set up following the merger of the two companies managing at that time Bucharest’s airports: Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.
