Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, certified by ACI for carbon emission reduction
Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) was certified by ACI with the Airport Carbon Accreditation, Level 2 – REDUCTION for Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport (AIHCB).
This accreditation represents the acknowledgement of all the efforts made for managing and reducing carbon emissions and comes to prove once again, that CNAB’ concern for environmental protection is not only a priority, but it leads to measurable results in this area.
In 2013, AIHCB was the first airport in Romania to receive the Airport Carbon Accreditation, Level 1 – MAPPING, being included at the same time in the top 90 airports in the world which met international criteria to be accredited for the analysis and reduction of carbon emission.
AIHCB is the first airport in Romania to receive the 2013 certification of Airport Carbon Accreditation, Level 1 - mapping, being included at the same time in the top 90 airports in the world which met the international criteria for being accredited analysis and reduction carbon emissions.
Bucharest Airports carbon mark – Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport bias point – includes direct emissions of CO2 from its own resources or under the direct control of the airport (heating stations, electric set, vehicles fleet, ground support aircraft equipment, facilities in case of fire), and also indirect CO2 emissions by acquired power consumption. Airport Carbon Accreditation certification, Level 1, was obtained after a laborious process of identifying and evaluating these resources.
To achieve Level 2 certification, Bucharest Airports National Company had to demonstrate documented carbon emissions reduction for previously identified sources. The documentation was verified by an independent auditor approved by ACI, respectively Verifavia Company, and subsequently submitted to ACI.
For further information, the carbon reduction was made under a substantial increase in traffic (passengers and aircrafts) at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is one of the most important programme of Airports Council International and is being managed by an independent organization whose members are representatives of the European Commission, United Nations Environment Programme, International Civil Aviation Organization, the European Conference of Civil Aviation, and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, EUROCONTROL.
Bucharest Airports National Company started functioning on February the 5th, 2010, ensuring the operational coordination and the management of the two airports in Bucharest. The company was set up following the merger of the two companies managing at that time Bucharest’s airports: Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport and Bucharest-Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.
Airports Council International (ACI) is the only global trade representative of the world’s airports. Established in 1991, ACI represents airports interests with Governments and international organizations such as ICAO, develops standards, policies and recommended practices for airports, and provides information and training opportunities to raise standards around the world.
Verifavia is a worldwide independent accredited environmental verification, certification and auditing body for aviation (airlines and business jets), airports and maritime transport (shipping). Verifavia provides carbon emissions verification for Airports applying for Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) (levels 1, 2, 3 and 3+). In 2015 alone, Verifavia provided independent carbon emissions verification to more than 20 airports worldwide.
